Energic 580 (78.5cv from 1965).

Energic 580 – Used in larger farms.

As Energic could not afford the large costs involved with R&D and the development of a new range of tracteurs, it made more sense to rebrand an existing range of quality tracteurs for the French domestic market. They approached the Austrian manufacturer Styer for 2 wheel drive tractors from 1965 with tractor models Energic 520 to 580 (Steyr 180/188/280/288 models – just rebadged Energic).

Cost in 1/05/1965 28,150 frs.

The biggest engine in the New Energic range. This model was produced in Steyr form from 1958 to 1972 with many modifications. Energic only promoted it for a short period of time from 1965/6 as sales were poor for Energic in this large engined sector, customers preferring Case, Massey Ferguson, Deutz – larger Tracteur manufacturers known for their bigger capacity tracteurs. Originally the moteur was 68cv (alésage 110 mm x course 140 mm), over time the moteur was modified to 78.5 cv – by 1965.This engine was also used in trucks, generators etc.

Engine/Moteur. Steyr – WD 413a, 4 stroke, 4 cylinders, 5322 cm 3, 78.5 cv.

After the initial new Energic model line up of the 520, 530, 540, 550, 560 and 580 tractors was introduced in May 1965, 2 models from this 6 model line up were dropped to streamline the range after a poor start to selling to this different and very competitive market. The line up was then 530, 540 (just narrow/vigneron model), 560 and the huge 580 tractors. Sales remained poor and the trading partnership between Energic and Steyr stopped. At this point, the Energic range reverted back to smaller tractors. The line up included the 511 petrol, the 512 diesel, the 4 RM diesel range, the new second series 519 (with Ramus or MGF hydraulic rear lifts) and the smaller 521 vignerons 2 cylinders tractor both diesels. These tractors were Energic own and represented their last efforts to stay in the small to mid-range tractor market. as the competition increased from very large tractor brands in their home market.
