Energic Tracteur 520 (from 28/02/1965).
As Energic could not afford the large costs involved with R&D and the development of a new range of tracteurs, it made more sense to rebrand an existing range of quality tracteurs for the French domestic market. They approached the Austrian manufacturer Steyr for 2-wheel drive tractors from 1965 with tractor models Energic 520 to 580 (Steyr 180/188/280 /288 models – just rebadged Energic)
Range 520, 30, 40, 50, 60 & 80 based on a Austrian Steyr tractor models.
Energic 520 (available 5/1965 in model Farmer). Price in 19/05/1965 11650 francs. Origin Austria manufacturer Steyr.
This single-cylinder and the 530 2-cylinder models were the most popular in the Energic Steyr rebadged range of 1965. As the size of tracteur, which was bang up to date – launched model 1964/68, was in line with the typical Energic brand smallholder customer. And as a repeat customer moving from the old 500 series 511, 512 and smaller vineyard tracteurs etc was not too much of a leap.

After the initial new Energic model line up of the 520, 530, 540, 550, 560 and 580 tracteurs was introduced in May 1965, 2 models from this 6 model line up were dropped to streamline the range after a poor start to selling to this different and very competitive market. The lineup was then 530, 540 (just narrow/vigneron model), 560 and the huge 580 tracteurs. Sales remained poor and the trading partnership between Energic and Steyr stopped. At this point, the Energic range reverted back to smaller tracteurs. The lineup included the 511 petrol, the 512 diesel, the 4 RM diesel range, the new second series 519 (with Ramus or MGF hydraulic rear lifts) and the smaller 521 vigneron 2-cylinder tracteur both diesels. These tracteurs were Energic own and represented their last efforts to stay in the small to mid-range tracteur market. as the competition increased from very large tracteur brands in their home market.
