Joseph Marie Emmanuel de Bucy founder of Cérès.
Born in 1872 at Langres in the Haut Marne, Joseph Marie Emmanuel de Bucy verliet zijn opleiding om monteur te worden nadat hij zijn basiscijfers had gehaald. Hij diende niet als leerling, maar begon op de grond als autodidactisch monteur. After his marriage in 1895, hij runde een stoomzaagbedrijf dat hij verkocht 1903 to run a business as a master mechanic at Bur-sur-Aube (in the area Aube). In 1931 Cérès creëerde zijn eerste reeks dieselmotoren van 1 to 4 cylinder. Het bedrijf bleef groeien tot het uitbreken van de tweede wereldoorlog. Op dit punt, De Cérès Company was vereist onder STO (Service De Travail Obligatoire) imposition to manufacture for the German war effort. The activity of the factory was greatly reduced at this time.

In 1951 to 1958 Cérès construted diesel moteurs destined for tractors. Either as original fitment or as a secondary fitment to upgrade older tractors. From Ford and Fergusons tracteurs (moteurs D2F) to Zetor T 25, all fitted with various types of the D range of Cérès engines.
In 1953 Cérès launched a range of tracteur called “Champion” with a new company “Society Champion”, registered at 8 du Boulevard de Belgique at Troyes. With the Sevice commercial installed at Neuill-sur-Seine and was registered next to Society Cérès at 42 Rue de Dunkerque, Paris 10.
Cérès still produced moteurs for industrial, agricultural and commercial markets independent of the Champion tracteur company. In fact produced finished tracteurs for Bison, Racer en Gartner tractormerken. Ze produceerden iconische trekkers zoals de Junior P-25, Comet D2K2, Elan D230, Tenor D2K35, Alto, cadet, Dauphin, Rubis, Fulda, CH 25 P-25, Cw 45. Onder het merk Champion, het bedrijf bloeit tot de sluiting in 1959.
The P-25 Cérès moteur used in the 525 tracteur, was also used in many tracteurs of the era namely; Ferguson TEA, Renaults, Labourier P25, Arnoux, Valor/Micromax T30, Champion Juniors, Farmall Utility, Farmall FCD – SFC, Babiole, Massey Harris 101J, etc. Here are some photos of a selection of these tracteurs;

In 1958 Cérès werd de dealer voor Slanzi-motoren in Frankrijk, with the right to commercialise these moteurs throughout the world. Deze moteurs werden gebruikt in elektrische generatoren, pumps and adapted for use in agricultural tracteurs of the time. Energic used them in the 4RM ranges and tracteurs.
1960, saw Cérès making tracteur engines for SIFT (société industrial de force et de Traction), also pumps, generators, and moteurs for travaux public.
1964 saw Cérès become the concessionaire for Rolls Royce diesel moteurs in France, with the right to commercialise these moteurs throughout the world. With engines power from 100 to 1000cv.

Cérès used moteurs from Perkins, Cummins, Ford Daf etc. om hun projecten vanaf dat moment aan te drijven. And operated as agents for other engine manufactures across France and the world.
