Oil circulation reservoirs.
On the first 350cc moteurs (Single cylinder, enclosed side valves, 346.7cm3, 4 stroke, 7hp (cv)) used on the C7 range from 1931/2 to 34 – the B4L model. Il y avait initialement un réservoir d'huile attaché à la trappe d'inspection, positioned top back, of the moteur. This was a tall cylinder of 27.2 cms high by 13 cms in circumference and held approx. 2/3 litre of engine oil. See left-hand photo.
Il a ensuite été modifié pour les dimensions du cylindre (27.5 cms tall x 21 cms circumference) and located in a slightly different position and larger capacity than its predecessor – attached to the very rear right side of the moteur. Thus not impeding the access to the moteur and requiring less pressure to fill. Photo 2

Tout a changé avec le nouveau moteur Motobécane “S bloc”. Circulation of the oil was increased and the reservoir was now a separate tank next to the fuel tank. Il offrait un plus grand volume d'huile, un véritable système de refroidissement avec une recirculation de l'huile vers le réservoir et une évacuation vers la chaîne de transmission en cas de surcapacité dans le réservoir ou de décompression plus importante. It was also able to lubricate with a fine pressured mist of oil the drive chain.
