Joseph Marie Emmanuel de Bucy founder of Cérès.
Born in 1872 at Langres in the Haut Marne, Joseph Marie Emmanuel de Bucy a quitté ses études pour devenir mécanicien après avoir obtenu ses notes de base. Il n'a pas été apprenti mais a commencé sur le terrain en tant que mécanicien autodidacte. After his marriage in 1895, il dirigeait une entreprise de scie à vapeur dans laquelle il a vendu 1903 to run a business as a master mechanic at Bur-sur-Aube (in the area Aube). Il a examiné les types et la qualité du métal disponible et a investi de l'argent dans la fabrication de machines d'ingénierie dans un local à 14, rue de la Gare at Bar-sur-Aubein 1904. In 1931 Cérès a créé sa première gamme de moteurs diesel à partir de 1 to 4 cylinder. L'entreprise a continué de croître jusqu'au déclenchement de la seconde guerre mondiale. À ce point, La Société Cérès was required under STO (Service De Travail Obligatoire) imposition to manufacture for the German war effort. The activity of the factory was greatly reduced at this time.

In 1951 to 1958 Cérès construted diesel moteurs destined for tractors. Either as original fitment or as a secondary fitment to upgrade older tractors. From Ford and Fergusons tracteurs (moteurs D2F) to Zetor T 25, all fitted with various types of the D range of Cérès engines.
In 1953 Cérès launched a range of tracteur called “Champion” with a new company “Society Champion”, registered at 8 du Boulevard de Belgique at Troyes. With the Sevice commercial installed at Neuill-sur-Seine and was registered next to Society Cérès at 42 Rue de Dunkerque, Paris 10.
Cérès still produced moteurs for industrial, agricultural and commercial markets independent of the Champion tracteur company. In fact produced finished tracteurs for Bison, Marques de tracteurs Racer et Gartner. Ils ont produit des tracteurs emblématiques tels que le Junior P-25, Comet D2K2, Elan D230, Tenor D2K35, Alto, cadet, Dauphin, Rubis, Fulda, CH 25 P-25, Cw 45. The P-25 Cérès moteur used in the 525 tracteur, was also used in many tracteurs of the era namely; Ferguson TEA, Renaults, Labourier P25, Arnoux, Valor / Micromax T30, Champion Juniors, Farmall Utility, Farmall FCD – SFC, Babiole, Massey Harris 101J, etc. Here are some photos of a selection of these tracteurs;

In 1958 Cérès devient concessionnaire des moteurs Slanzi en France, with the right to commercialise these moteurs throughout the world. Ces moteurs ont été utilisés dans les générateurs électriques, pumps and adapted for use in agricultural tracteurs of the time. Energic used them in the 4RM ranges and tracteurs.
1960, saw Cérès making tracteur engines for SIFT (société industrial de force et de Traction), also pumps, generators, and moteurs for travaux public.
1964 saw Cérès become the concessionaire for Rolls Royce diesel moteurs in France, with the right to commercialise these moteurs throughout the world. With engines power from 100 to 1000cv.

Cérès used moteurs from Perkins, Cummins, Ford Daf etc. pour propulser leurs projets dès lors. And operated as agents for other engine manufactures across France and the world.
